How it is calculated
Area units are the squares of length units, so the length factor has to be squared as well. This is the step most hand conversions get wrong: dividing by 3.28 converts feet to metres, but not square feet to square metres.
m² = sq ft × 0.09290304 · sq ft = m² ÷ 0.09290304
Square the length factor
One foot is 0.3048 m, so one square foot is 0.3048 × 0.3048 = 0.09290304 m². That is the exact figure the calculator uses — it is not rounded.
Multiply the area
1,000 sq ft × 0.09290304 = 92.90304 m², which is usually written 92.90 m². Because the factor is exact, the only rounding is in the display.
Read the Indian units alongside
One gaj is a square yard, or 9 sq ft. Divide the square feet by 9 for gaj: 1,000 sq ft is 111.1 gaj. For land, 43,560 sq ft is exactly one acre.

What most pages get wrong
Dividing by 3.28 gives the wrong answer
Feet to metres is ×0.3048, but square feet to square metres is ×0.09290304 — the factor squared. A 1,000 sq ft flat is 92.9 m², not 305 m².
One gaj is a square yard, or 9 sq ft
Property in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana is often quoted in gaj. 1,000 sq ft is 111.1 gaj, and one gaj is 0.8361 m². The calculator shows gaj alongside square metres.
The conversion is the same; the area being measured is not
Carpet area is the usable floor inside the walls; super built-up area adds a share of common spaces. Both are quoted in sq ft, so convert whichever figure you have — but compare like with like.
