Why this set exists

What this vertical covers

Written for an Indian user, not a keyword counter

Unit conversion is arithmetic, not opinion: an inch is exactly 2.54 cm, a pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg, and a square foot is exactly 0.09290304 square metres. These pages show the factor and the method instead of asking you to trust a black box.

The converters cover the queries Indian users actually type — height in cm and feet, body weight in kg and lb, plot area in sq ft and sq m, oven and weather temperatures, fuel in litres and gallons, and road distances in kilometres and miles. Where two units share a name but not a size, such as the US and imperial gallon, the page makes you choose.

Before you calculate

Worth knowing before you calculate

01 · Exact factors

These are definitions, not measurements

The international inch, pound and mile were fixed by agreement, so their conversion factors are exact. The decimal places you see in a result come from display rounding, not from uncertainty in the factor.

02 · Two directions

cm to feet and feet to cm are separate pages

The two directions are reciprocal, not identical: one page starts from a form value in centimetres, the other from a tape measure in feet and inches. Each has its own table and worked example.

03 · Metric India

India trades in metric, but the old units survive

Indian law requires metric units for trade, so fuel is sold in litres and plots are registered in square metres. Feet, inches and gaj remain in conversation and property advertising, which is why both sides of each conversion are useful.

Questions

Unit Converters — frequently asked questions

Are these unit conversions exact?+
The factors are exact because they are definitions: 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg, 1 mile = 1.609344 km. The calculator rounds only for display, so a result shown as 2.64 may be 2.6417 internally.
Why are cm to feet and feet to cm on separate pages?+
Because the inputs and the questions are different. Height forms ask for centimetres, while people describe height in feet and inches, and the common-values tables are more useful when they start from the unit you actually have. The two pages use reciprocal factors.
Which gallon does the litres to gallons page use?+
Both. You can switch between the US gallon (3.785411784 L) and the imperial gallon (4.54609 L), and the result shows both figures. The US gallon is the default because US fuel and recipe labels use it.
Do the converters send my numbers anywhere?+
No. Every calculation runs in your browser and nothing is stored or transmitted. There is no sign-up and no result history.
How can I convert units without a calculator?+
Remember the anchors: 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 foot = 30.48 cm, 1 kg = 2.2 lb, 1 sq m = 10.76 sq ft, and °F = °C × 1.8 + 32. For area, remember to square the length factor — that is the mistake the square-feet page warns about.
Which converters are best for property measurements?+
Use the square feet to square metres converter for plot and flat areas, and the plot area converter for gaj, acre and hectare conversions. The cm to feet page is for lengths, not areas.
Trust layer — why these pages are different

Every calculator, dated and sourced.

Each calculator on this page is generated from one verified record: its inputs, formula, tests, sources and the date the numbers were checked. When an official rate changes, the record changes and the page is rebuilt with a new verified date.
