Five years of eligibility for General candidates. If you are 23 and waiting for the next cycle, check the cutoff carefully: your birthday relative to 1 January decides it.

02 · The cutoff

Age is reckoned as on 1 January

SSC GD uses 1 January of the recruitment year, not the August date used for CGL. The 2027 cutoff is expected to be 01.01.2027, confirmed in the notification.

03 · Two tests

Age and physical standards are separate gates

Clearing the age limit does not make you eligible — height, chest and medical standards are checked separately. Both matter, and both appear in the notification.

What is the age limit for SSC GD 2027?+
Expected to stay 18 to 23 years as on 1 January 2027 for General / EWS, with OBC-NCL at 26 and SC/ST at 28. The limit and the cutoff are confirmed when the 2027 notification is issued.
My birthday is in December. Am I still eligible?+
Age is counted as on 1 January. If you turn 24 on 31 December 2026 you are already 24 on the cutoff date and over the limit; if you turn 24 on 2 January 2027 you are still 23 and eligible.
I'm OBC. What is my upper age limit?+
26 years as on the cutoff date — a three-year relaxation on 23. The certificate must be a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued within the window the notification specifies.
Is there an attempt limit for SSC GD?+
No. There is no cap on attempts; eligibility is determined by age on the cutoff date, category, and the physical standards.
Does the force I choose change my age limit?+
No. The age limit is common across the CAPFs and other forces covered by the recruitment. The physical standards and the merit list differ by force.
When is the next SSC GD notification?+
Expected in December 2026 for the 2027 cycle. We update this page within days of the notification, and the changelog below records what changed.
