The lower limit is 18 years for every category. Relaxations apply to the upper limit only. Undergraduate (12th-level) posts are a separate CEN with different limits.

Four things most pages get wrong

01 · The cutoff

Age is reckoned as on 1 January 2027

For CEN 06/2026 the cutoff date is 01.01.2027. Turning 34 on 2 January 2027 keeps you eligible; turning 34 on 31 December 2026 does not.

02 · Two notifications

Graduate and undergraduate posts are separate

This page covers the graduate-level CEN. The 12th-level CEN is a different notification with its own vacancies and age limits — do not assume the same numbers.

03 · The attempts

There is no attempt limit

Eligibility is about age on the cutoff date, not how many times you have appeared. You can keep attempting until you cross the upper age limit for your category.

04 · The documents

Certificates are checked against the cutoff date

Category and ex-serviceman claims must be supported by valid certificates as on the cutoff date. An expired OBC-NCL certificate will not survive document verification.

NTPC is split into graduate posts (this page) and undergraduate posts (separate CEN). If you are applying to both, check the age limit for each notification — they are not interchangeable.

What is the age limit for RRB NTPC 2026–27?+
For graduate-level posts the limit is 18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2027 for General / EWS. OBC-NCL gets 36, SC/ST gets 38, and PwD candidates get 43.
Is the under-graduate NTPC age limit the same?+
No. The 12th-level posts are a separate notification (CEN 07/2026) with different vacancies and age limits. Check that notification separately — this page covers the graduate posts.
My birthday is in December. How is my age calculated?+
Completed years as on 1 January 2027 count. If you turn 34 on 31 December 2026 you are already 34 on the cutoff date and over the limit; if you turn 34 on 2 January 2027 you are still 33 on the cutoff date and eligible.
I'm OBC. What is my upper age limit?+
36 years as on 1 January 2027 — a three-year relaxation on 33. The certificate must be a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued within the window the notification specifies.
Is there an attempt limit for RRB NTPC?+
No. There is no cap on attempts; eligibility is determined by your age on the cutoff date and your category.
I'm an ex-serviceman. How is my age calculated?+
Military service is deducted from your actual age before the upper limit is applied, plus a relaxation as per the notification. The calculator flags this because a flat three-year relaxation is not the same thing.
When is the next RRB NTPC notification?+
The current graduate cycle is CEN 06/2026, with applications closing in November 2026. The next cycle typically appears the following year; we update this page when it is notified.
