The method

How it is calculated

The formula this page actually runs

An EPF balance grows from three things: your 12%, the part of the employer's 12% that stays in EPF, and interest on the running balance. The calculator adds them month by month.

Formula Monthly EPF credit = 12% of PF wage (you) + 12% of PF wage − 8.33% of min(wage, Rs 25,000) (employer) · interest = rate ÷ 12 on each month's balance, credited at year end
01

Find your PF wage

Use basic pay plus DA. Many employers deduct PF on the Rs 25,000 statutory wage ceiling instead of actual basic; pick the option that matches your payslip.

02

Split the employer's 12%

8.33% of wages up to the wage ceiling goes to the pension scheme: Rs 15,000 (at most Rs 1,250 a month) for wage months up to August 2026, and Rs 25,000 (at most Rs 2,082.50) from September 2026, since S.O. 5109(E) took effect on 17 September. Only the rest of the employer's 12% is credited to your EPF.

03

Add interest the EPFO way

Interest is worked out on the monthly running balance at one-twelfth of the yearly rate and credited once at the end of the year, so it compounds yearly.

04

Repeat each year to retirement

Your PF wage rises by the yearly increase you enter. The result is an estimate; actual rates are declared each year.

Before you use it

What most pages get wrong

3 things worth knowing before you use the number
01 · The rate

8.25% is the EPF interest rate for 2025–26

The Central Government approved 8.25% for 2025–26 under para 60(1) of the EPF Scheme, the same rate as 2024–25.

02 · The split

Not all of the employer's 12% reaches your EPF

8.33% of wages up to the wage ceiling goes to EPS for your pension: at most Rs 2,082.50 a month from 17 September 2026, up from Rs 1,250.

03 · The ceiling

Rs 25,000 is the PF wage ceiling from 17 September 2026

S.O. 5109(E) raised the ceiling from Rs 15,000. Above it, contribution on actual basic is optional, which changes your take-home pay and your corpus.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

The queries people actually search
What is the EPF interest rate for 2025–26?+
8.25% a year. The Central Government approved it in June 2026 and EPFO began crediting it to member accounts in July 2026.
How much of my salary goes to EPF?+
You contribute 12% of basic pay plus DA. Your employer also pays 12%, but 8.33% of wages up to Rs 25,000 goes to the pension scheme, so the employer's EPF share is usually 3.67% or a little more.
Is the EPS pension contribution included in this balance?+
No. The EPS share builds your monthly pension and is not withdrawn with your EPF balance at retirement.
Why is my PF worked out on Rs 25,000 when my basic is higher?+
Rs 25,000 is the statutory wage ceiling from 17 September 2026 (Rs 15,000 before). Employers may deduct on the ceiling or on actual basic; choose the matching option above to see the difference.
How does EPFO calculate interest on my PF?+
On the running balance each month at one-twelfth of the annual rate, added together and credited once at the end of the year.
Is this the amount I will actually get?+
No, it is an estimate. The interest rate is declared every year, your pay may change differently, and withdrawals reduce the balance. Your EPFO passbook is the official record.
Which wage ceiling does the calculator use for 2026?+
Rs 15,000 for wage months before September 2026 and Rs 25,000 from September 2026 onwards. The new ceiling took effect on 17 September 2026, and the calculator treats the whole of September at Rs 25,000; choose the April 2026 start to model the earlier months.
