Estimate. The method and sources are on this page — check them against your own case before you act.
How it is calculated
CTC is a cost budget, not a bank credit. The gap comes from employer contributions, your own PF, professional tax and income tax. The calculator rebuilds each line from the CTC.
Take-home = gross salary − employee PF − professional tax − monthly income tax · Gross salary = CTC − employer PF − gratuity
Split the CTC
Basic pay is the chosen percentage of CTC. HRA is a percentage of basic. Employer PF is 12% of basic and gratuity provision about 4.81% of basic; the remainder is special allowance.
Remove what you cannot spend
Employee PF (12% of basic) goes into your EPF account, professional tax goes to the state and income tax goes to the government. Gross salary minus these is the monthly take-home.
Estimate new-regime tax
Annual gross salary minus Rs 75,000 standard deduction is taxed at tax year 2026–27 new-regime slabs, with the section 156 rebate, surcharge if applicable and 4% cess.
CTC components used in this estimate
| Component | Typical rule | Effect on take-home |
|---|---|---|
| Basic pay | 30–50% of CTC (40% used here) | Base for PF, HRA and gratuity |
| HRA | 50% of basic in metro cities, 40% elsewhere | Part of gross salary |
| Employer PF | 12% of basic, often inside CTC | Reduces gross salary |
| Gratuity provision | 4.81% of basic, often inside CTC | Paid only after 5 years' service |
| Employee PF | 12% of basic | Deducted from gross salary |
| Professional tax | State levy, often Rs 200/month | Deducted from gross salary |
| Standard deduction | Rs 75,000 in the new tax regime | Reduces taxable salary |
| Section 156 rebate | Up to Rs 60,000 if taxable income ≤ Rs 12,00,000 | Can make tax zero |
What most pages get wrong
CTC and take-home are not the same number
Employer PF and gratuity are money set aside by your employer, not salary paid to you. They can be 16–17% of your basic pay.
A higher basic means a bigger PF deduction
Employee PF is 12% of basic, so a 50%-basic structure puts more into retirement savings and less into the monthly bank credit than a 30%-basic structure.
Rs 12.75 lakh CTC can still be tax-free
With a 40% basic structure, a Rs 12 lakh CTC leaves taxable salary below the Rs 12,00,000 rebate line in the new regime. The PF and professional tax still come out.
Professional tax is not the same everywhere
Karnataka, Maharashtra and several other states levy professional tax, with rates and caps that differ. The monthly amount is editable here for that reason.
