The method

How it is calculated

The formula this page actually runs

A 7th CPC salary is built from the matrix cell, then four allowances and two deductions. The matrix fixes basic pay; the DA order and the city decide the rest.

Formula Gross = basic pay + DA + HRA + transport allowance · DA = basic × DA% · HRA = basic × 30%/20%/10%
01

Find the basic pay

Your pay level and cell give the basic pay in the 7th CPC matrix. Level 7 starts at Rs 44,900 and moves one cell, roughly 3%, each increment. Enter the matrix cell you are actually on.

02

Add DA and HRA

DA is a percentage of basic pay and is revised twice a year. HRA is 30% of basic in X cities, 20% in Y cities and 10% in Z cities — the rates that apply once DA crossed 50%.

03

Add TA, then deduct NPS and tax

Transport allowance depends on pay level and whether you are posted in a higher TPTA city, and DA is paid on it too. NPS takes 10% of basic + DA; income tax is estimated on the annual gross at new-regime rates.

Before you use it

What most pages get wrong

4 things worth knowing before you use the number
01 · The matrix

Basic pay is a cell, not a percentage of CTC

The 7th CPC replaced pay bands with a matrix of 19 levels. Your basic pay is one cell in your level, and each annual increment moves you one cell down.

02 · DA

DA is 63% from 1 July 2026

DA is revised every January and July. It is paid on basic pay and on transport allowance, and it is the input most likely to change your answer.

03 · HRA

HRA depends on the city class, not the city name

X cities pay 30% of basic, Y cities 20% and Z cities 10%. The classification is notified by the government, so confirm your city's class before relying on the figure.

04 · TA

Transport allowance has three level bands

Level 9 and above get the highest TA, Levels 3–8 the middle band, and Levels 1–2 the lowest. City category changes the amount within each band.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

The queries people actually search
How is 7th pay salary calculated?+
Start with basic pay from the pay matrix, add DA, HRA and transport allowance, then deduct NPS and tax. A Level 7 employee at Rs 44,900 with DA at 63% gets about Rs 92,525 gross per month.
What is the 7th CPC fitment factor?+
2.57. In 2016 the old basic pay was multiplied by 2.57 and placed in the same or next higher cell of the new pay matrix. The matrix, not the factor, now determines pay.
What is the current DA rate?+
63% of basic pay from 1 July 2026, after the 3% increase approved in October 2026. DA was 60% from 1 January 2026. It changes twice a year, so update the DA input.
What are the HRA rates for central government employees?+
30% of basic pay in X class cities, 20% in Y class and 10% in Z class. These are the rates that apply once DA crossed 50%; the earlier rates were 24%, 16% and 8%.
How much is transport allowance?+
Level 9 and above: Rs 7,200 in higher TPTA cities and Rs 3,600 elsewhere. Levels 3–8: Rs 3,600 and Rs 1,800. Levels 1–2: Rs 1,350 and Rs 900. DA is paid on top.
Is NPS deducted from gross salary?+
For employees covered by NPS, 10% of basic + DA is deducted every month and the government contributes 14%. Pre-2004 employees and GPF subscribers should choose the no option.
Does this calculator include 8th Pay Commission pay?+
No. The 8th CPC has not notified a new pay matrix or fitment factor. This page uses the 7th CPC matrix, which remains in force until the new rules are notified.
