The method

How it is calculated

The formula this page actually runs

No 8th CPC pay matrix exists yet, so this page uses the same method the 7th CPC used in 2016 — multiply today's basic by a fitment factor — and lets you choose every number that has not been announced.

Formula Projected basic = current basic × fitment factor (nearest rupee) · Projected pay = projected basic × (1 + new DA% + new HRA%) · Difference = projected pay − current basic × (1 + current DA% + current HRA%)
01

Multiply by the fitment factor

Under the CCS (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016 the old basic pay was multiplied by 2.57, rounded to the nearest rupee and then placed in the next matrix cell. Without an 8th CPC matrix, this page stops at the multiplied figure.

02

Restart DA and HRA as you choose

In 2016 DA restarted at 0% on the new basic and HRA dropped to 24/16/8%. These are the defaults here because they are the last precedent, not because they have been announced for the 8th CPC.

03

Compare like with like

The difference compares basic + DA + HRA today with the same three items after revision. Transport allowance, NPS or UPS contributions and income tax are left out, so the take-home change will be different.

Before you use it

What most pages get wrong

4 things worth knowing before you use the number
01 · Status

No fitment factor has been announced

The 8th CPC was constituted on 3 November 2025 and, as of the Government's reply of 10 August 2026, had not submitted recommendations. Any factor you see quoted, including 2.57 here, is an assumption.

02 · The reset

A big basic does not mean a big rise

In 2016 DA dropped from 125% to 0% when the new basic began, so the jump in gross pay was far smaller than the jump in basic. Compare basic + DA + HRA, not basic alone.

03 · HRA

HRA can fall back to 24/16/8%

The 7th CPC reset HRA to 24/16/8% and restored 27/18/9% and 30/20/10% only as DA crossed 25% and 50%. The default here mirrors that precedent.

04 · Timing

The report is due within 18 months

The Resolution gives the Commission 18 months from 3 November 2025. Government acceptance and the date of effect come after that, and neither is announced.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

The queries people actually search
When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?+
Not announced. The Commission was constituted on 3 November 2025 with 18 months to report, which points to about May 2027 for the report. Acceptance and the date of effect are decided by the Government after that, so this page shows no arrears.
What is the 8th Pay Commission fitment factor?+
There is no official figure. The 7th CPC used 2.57. The scenarios here — 1.92 to 2.86 from media estimates and 3.83 from the staff-side memorandum — are projections, not announcements.
How much will salary increase under the 8th Pay Commission?+
It depends on the factor and on DA and HRA after revision. For Level 7 at Rs 44,900 in an X city, a 2.28 factor with DA reset to 0 and HRA at 24% gives about Rs 1,26,941 basic + HRA against Rs 86,657 basic + DA + HRA today — about 46.5% more. Treat that as a scenario.
Will DA reset to zero under the 8th Pay Commission?+
Not announced. When the 7th CPC took effect in 2016, DA restarted at 0% on the revised basic. This page uses 0% as the default because that is the last precedent; you can change it.
How will HRA change under the 8th Pay Commission?+
Not announced. Under the 7th CPC, HRA restarted at 24/16/8% for X/Y/Z cities and rose to 27/18/9% and 30/20/10% as DA crossed 25% and 50% (DoE OM, 7 July 2017). The new-HRA input lets you test that pattern.
How will the 8th Pay Commission affect pensioners?+
Its terms of reference include reviewing pension and death-cum-retirement gratuity for employees inside and outside NPS/UPS. No revision formula is announced; the 7th pay pension calculator covers today's rules.
Does the 8th Pay Commission apply to defence personnel?+
Yes, its terms of reference list personnel of the Defence Forces alongside civilian employees and All India Services. Military Service Pay and defence allowances are not modelled here.
